The Solution

The most successful investors and traders in the group were the most knowledgeable. They knew exactly where to find the information they needed when they needed it. The less successful did not. The people working on the project soon realized that knowledge and information were the keys to success.

It became obvious that the problem would not be solved by adding another “expert” voice offering investment tips and techiques similar to the thousands of experts already doing that. The way to successful investing had to be quick and easy. The solution was to organize already available information so that all team members could use it effectively in their own ways.

The Plan to Meet Investors’ Needs

After studying the investors’ requirements the project team decided to:

• Deal only with information that investors could access from anywhere, anytime – in other words, information available over the Internet.
• Make the information as comprehensive as possible, but limit the scope to the U.S. stock market.
• Organize the information to educate the investor to be self-reliant.
• Organize the information to support an investing process that encompasses the broad array of investment methods and techniques that investors are already using.
• Work with expert investment information providers to improve the content, organization and presentation of investment information that they offer.

With these guidelines it was felt that Investors Internet Inc. could meet the requirements of a diverse group of investors and traders.

Research Results

Research showed that there are more than 2,000 Internet sites providing investment information. The cost of providing access to all of this information to an investor could be around $50,000 per month, depending on the options chosen at each site. Clearly investors could not afford comprehensive information at that price.

Further research also showed that, although there is limited free information at any one site, there are hundreds of Internet sites providing useful investing information free of charge. Moreover the quality of this information is no less than the information provided for a fee. The information is usually less detailed but is more than enough to give investors a good education and help them with their investments, whatever method they use for investing. Hence the initial focus became the free information from the Internet – FIFTI. So that is the idea behind Investors Internet Inc.

Dr. Keith Kennedy, who leads the team. He has many years experience as an investor and has an extensive background in management consulting. He has advised stockbrokers, banks, insurance companies, professional firms, commercial and industrial companies on solving their information problems. His career includes a Ph.D. in engineering, positions as a Managing Director for one of the “Big Four” management consulting firms in the U.K., Chief Executive of an information technology and consulting firm in England, and years of experience as a Principal of a management consulting firm in the USA.

Jane Schwellenbach, who is an investor with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from UCLA and a Master’s Degree from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. She is the Director of Research at Investors Internet Inc. She is an investor with expertise in research and education. Her previous experience includes research in information management and system optimization. She lectured on mathematics and engineering at university and ran management training courses in industry. Her primary responsibility in the team is to direct the ongoing research into investors’ requirements and the means of meeting them.
